Winners and Losers - who stand to gain from an increase in carbon price?

In March 2010 we published a study on which sectors and companies within Sweden that stand to gain, and lose, from an increase in the price of carbon emissions. The study was received well by the Swedish audience, and also attracted interest from our network abroad. Therefore, we now publish Winners & Losers.

In a new book from the think tank Fores, the suggestion is that the world’s largest emitters constitute a separate forum for climate negotiations, supported by institutions as strong as the IMF and World Bank. In addition, its sketch up an exchange rate system for the price of carbon to create a global emissions trading.

Market solutions to environmental problems

At the heart of Fores environmental work, is to investigate and find powerful and effective solutions to environmental and climate issues, with focus on market-oriented measures. Game rules and instruments must be designed to keep Sweden and the world away from dependence of fossil fuels. Special emphasis is on managing projects with scientific connection to environmental economics and getting exciting findings applied to practical policy. We look therefore closer to the design of mechanisms such as taxes, subsidies, allowances, rules and institutions that is pursuing this.
