Europe: Takes key step in solar energy project in Arab deserts

MiddleEastOnline: Two consortiums led by German, French industrial giants join forces to deploy solar panels, wind turbines across Arab deserts. A first solar field will soon get off the ground in Morocco at a cost of 1.9 billion euros. Near Ouarzazat, in central Morocco, the plant is expected to produce 0,5 GW, half the energy created by a nuclear reactor. In total, the projects are aimed meeting 15 % of Europe’s electricity demand by 2050.
